Students add colour to tourism
The Karratha Visitor Centre tourism-themed colouring-in competition for primary school students finishes this week.
The competition, which asks children to draw what they love most about living in their local area for display by the KVC, has been running in most City of Karratha primary schools since late last year.
The last of the awards will be given out this week.
KVC manager Jane Knapp said she was impressed by the variety of entries received.
“We did get a lot of the beach, but we got some really unique ones of the red dirt and the landscape — kids’ imaginations are unbelievable,” she said.
“It was really good, the difference in things we got, and it really showed what (children) do on their weekends. It really does show that we have absolutely everything here.”
The project was funded by Alinta Energy through its Pilbara community sponsorships program.
The competition was designed to complement the KVC photography competition held last month.
The children’s drawings are now on display along the bridge leading to the KVC building.
