Bikers ride into Cossack for run
Cossack was anything but quiet for a brief period of time last Saturday as the ghost town burst to life with the thunder of a motorbike convoy and smell of fried chicken.
It was one of several stopovers for the Karratha Bikers Association’s annual poker run, which had about 70 bikes cruise through Karratha to the Dampier Mermaid, Wickham OB’s Club and Cossack before heading back to the clubrooms.
KBA president Matt Peters said tradition was a big part of the poker run’s attraction.
“The run the way it is, we’ve always done it like that,” he said.
“It makes it easier for the people in Wickham as well. They don’t have to come out so far as Dampier if they don’t want. “It’s tradition, I suppose.” As for the very “traditional” KFC at Cossack leg, Mr Peters said the riders always looked forward to it.
“It probably started when KFC first moved to town,” he said.
“Makes it heaps easier for us to cater. We just go pick it up and have a feed.
“Catching up with like-minded people and seeing the community come out, have a ride and support the club, that is what is most important.”
The funds raised from the poker run will go to the Karratha RSL sub branch.
The Karratha Bikers Association stopped over at Cossack on their annual poker run.
