An­glers told to check fish li­cences

An­glers are be­ing re­minded to check they have the cor­rect li­censes be­fore go­ing on a fish­ing trip.

Li­cences are re­quired in WA for the use of a pow­ered boat to fish or to trans­port catches or fish­ing gear to or from a land-based fish­ing lo­ca­tion, and for abalone, mar­ron, rock lob­ster and set, haul and throw net fish­ing.

De­part­ment of Fish­eries north­ern com­mu­nity ed­u­ca­tion of­fi­cer Jes­samy Ham said it paid to do your re­search as fish­ing li­censes var­ied from State to State.

He said li­cences needed to be car­ried at all times while fish­ing.

Rev­enue from fish­ing li­cences is spent on ar­ti­fi­cial reefs, fish-at-tract­ing de­vices and re­search.
