Weather great for holidaymakers

Pilbara News - - Front Page - Tackleworld Exmouth

I have to say it again, we love April. The weather has been sensational. Exmouth is full of holidaymakers and those heading out boating should consider getting in as early as possible at ramps to avoid queues.

Those chasing Spanish mackerel at first light have found the going tough lately, but I’m sure this will pick up.

When mackerel won’t take a deep diver, it can pay to rig up swim baits, such as mullet.

The ever-popular deep dropping with electric reels has not disappointed lately.

Ruby snapper are a common target species and often caught between the 250m and 350m contours.

Last weekend, a 25kg ruby was weighed in at Tackleworld.

Heavy tackle is essential for this style of fishing as retrieving fish from this depth puts an extreme amount of stress on your tackle.

To find out more, look out for our Sunday session on it.

Dolphin fish have been rampant for weeks and anglers targeting billfish have had so many hits from them they have lost count.

Junior angler Riley Smith caught the 8.5kg dolphin fish pictured on a 3kg line.

It would have been a record, but another angler touched the rod.
