A month-long installation project at BHP Billiton’s Pyrenees Venture has gone off without a hitch, prompting stakeholders to tip more work in the future will be based out of Exmouth.

The job involved subsea tieback activities on the Stickle 9 and Tanglehead wells about 45km off the North West Cape. Fugro TSM brought the 137m construction vessel Southern Ocean over for the project, with Base Marine providing services during its stay. Base Marine chief executive Nick Tutty said the project had been a good way to showcase the capabilities of industry in Exmouth.

Our client summed up the experience by saying it was a flawless service delivery,” he said. “The supply base and our local vessel operators Bhagwan and Gun Marine took the job in their stride and completed the project without a hitch. Base Marine, and Exmouth in general, are well placed to service future oil and gas projects as they come online.”
