‘Fierce competition’ expected as round robin starts
Rugby sides from across the Pilbara will take over Marie Marland oval in Port Hedland this weekend, when the inaugural Pilbara Rugby League round robin kicks off.
The Port Hedland Hawks, Wickham Wasps, Karratha Roosters, Storm and Broncos will compete in 10 games on Saturday night.
Hawks president and event coordinator Luke Fittock said he expected some tough competition at the event, adding he expected up to 100 players, referees and coaches would take the field.
“There’s obviously always fierce competition,” he said.
The round robin which will include full 13-player sides, will follow a day of playing for the league’s youngest as the juniors take to the field from 10am.
Fittock said he hoped the community would support the event.
The event starts at 6.20pm.
