Teams face off in front of big crowd
Marie Marland Oval played host to the Hedland Hawks, Karratha Roosters and the Karratha Storm for a rugby round robin at the weekend, with some big tackles and stellar skills on display.
Despite two teams pulling out, it didn’t stop a big crowd from heading down to the field to watch the three sides compete.
In an altered schedule, the three teams played two games each with 20 minutes halves. In game one, the Hawks beat the Roosters, 2416, in game two the Roosters beat the Storm, 26-18, and in game three the Hawks beat Storm, 26-6. The final game of the night was a feisty one, with both sides firing up with bragging rights on the line.
Event organiser and referee Luke Fittock said he was really happy with the turnout and said he hoped similar crowds would turn out for homes games.
