An expansion of the Buy West Eat Best program will benefit food producers in the Gascoyne and Pilbara, according to North West Central MLA Vince Catania.

The well-known logo will be now be available for restaurants, which ensure at least 70 per cent of entree and main meals have WA produce as the main ingredient.

Mr Catania said the program would encourage more chefs to highlight produce from the region on their menus.

“Whether it is the best beef and goat meat, fresh prawns, line-caught premium fish, every kind of fruit and vegetable that you can imagine, tropical fruits including the iconic mango, the best-tasting bananas in Australia, (or) the best crab in the world, North West Central has it all,” he said.

“Supporting local producers means the produce is fresher, tastier and sustains our regional communities, creating jobs and economic prosperity.”

The Buy West Eat Best program has been in place since 2007 and is available for food that is farmed, fished or grown in WA.
