Rock ‘n’ Bowls have been crowned 2016 summer competition champions at the Karratha Bowling Club after a comprehensive victory in the grand final last week.

The team of City of Karratha employees did it easily in the end, accounting for the Parks and Wildlife staff’s Balls of Fire, 25-5.

Rock ‘n’ Bowls spokesman Leon Myburgh said the team had enjoyed socialising and meeting new people during the competition.

“Henry (Eaton) came in for us halfway through the season and didn’t do too badly,” he said.

“Katie is a first timer and she has turned out pretty good.

“We came here for the enjoyment, but a win is good, too.”

Karratha Bowling Club president Graeme Wilkes said the summer competition had been well contested and enjoyable for teams.

“We have one more lot of corporate bowls to go, starting (next) week, then that will be it until the end of the year,” he said.

“The new-look green should be down by February next year.

“I think a lot more teams will be itching at the bit to come down and play on the awesome new green.”

The final round of corporate bowls begins this Tuesday, where teams of at least four will compete over a 10-week period.
