Boat res­cue warn­ing

West Pil­bara po­lice were in­volved in a joint op­er­a­tion with the Point Wal­cott Vol­un­teer Ma­rine Ser­vice to res­cue two peo­ple who they be­lieve were stranded in flood wa­ters at Balla Balla Creek on June 6.

Po­lice be­came in­volved in the in­ci­dent at 9.20pm, in­volv­ing a male and fe­male in a 3.5m dingy with en­gine prob­lems. Of­fi­cers were un­able to ac­cess the road to Balla Balla be­cause of heavy flood­ing.

Vol­un­teer Ma­rine Res­cue was called to as­sist, de­ploy­ing a boat from Point Samson to the res­cue the pair who were found al­most three hours later in good con­di­tion at the mouth of Balla Balla Creek.

Po­lice said the in­ci­dent high­lighted risks as­so­ci­ated with boat­ing in ex­treme weather con­di­tions.
