Fish and socialise fits bill at comp
The WA Day long weekend was not all relaxation for the dedicated North West anglers who competed in the annual major fishing competition, the 2016 Argonaut Billfish Shootout.
For them, there was three days of fishing off Dampier from the early hours of the morning until evening.
Each night finished with presentations at the Hampton Harbour Boat and Sailing Club, which supported the Nickol Bay Sportfishing Club event.
The names of champion teams and individual anglers were announced, as were those of raffle winners, and there were also some entertaining stories of fishing antics shared during the “dob in a mate” segment each night.
On Saturday and Sunday, participants kicked back after a hard days’ fishing, in the outdoor courtyard area of the Hampton Harbour Boat and Sailing Club and were treated to a barbecue dinner, courtesy of staff.
Wild weather on the final night forced team members into the upper inside area of the club which made for a tight fit but, thanks to good organisation, it went off without a hitch.
