Police officers get ready for legacy bike marathon
Local police officers and supporters are gearing up to compete in the 2016 Karratha to Broome WA Police Legacy bike marathon.
The premier fundraising event for WA Police Legacy, a support charity for partners and dependent children of police officers who have died or been incapacitated, will this year include up to 80 riders on the 850km bike ride.
They will depart from Karratha on Wednesday, August 10.
The 2016 event is set to be the biggest ride in recent years with 41 riders and 26 volunteers registered so far, including this year the Pilbara district police superintendent.
Organisers are also holding a raffle to be drawn on September 10 with first prize being a camper trailer valued at $18,500.
The bike marathon is also supported by St John Ambulance, the army and the State Emergency Service.
WA Police Legacy currently supports 75 widows, three widowers and 43 children under 21 years of age.
