Po­lice of­fi­cers get ready for le­gacy bike marathon

Lo­cal po­lice of­fi­cers and sup­port­ers are gear­ing up to com­pete in the 2016 Kar­ratha to Broome WA Po­lice Le­gacy bike marathon.

The pre­mier fundrais­ing event for WA Po­lice Le­gacy, a sup­port char­ity for part­ners and de­pen­dent chil­dren of po­lice of­fi­cers who have died or been in­ca­pac­i­tated, will this year in­clude up to 80 rid­ers on the 850km bike ride.

They will de­part from Kar­ratha on Wed­nes­day, Au­gust 10.

The 2016 event is set to be the big­gest ride in re­cent years with 41 rid­ers and 26 vol­un­teers reg­is­tered so far, in­clud­ing this year the Pil­bara district po­lice su­per­in­ten­dent.

Or­gan­is­ers are also hold­ing a raf­fle to be drawn on Septem­ber 10 with first prize be­ing a cam­per trailer val­ued at $18,500.

The bike marathon is also sup­ported by St John Am­bu­lance, the army and the State Emer­gency Ser­vice.

WA Po­lice Le­gacy cur­rently sup­ports 75 wid­ows, three wid­ow­ers and 43 chil­dren un­der 21 years of age.
