Locals trace cricket history

The West Pilbara Cricket Association is seeking information from longstanding or former Pilbara locals about the club’s history.

WPCA president Gavin Paterson said the association was mainly looking for Country Week winners from the mid-70s, ’80s and a few in the ’90s.

“We’re looking for people who have been around for ages or knows anyone who was here or played,” he said.

“If we can get 40 years, that’d be a good effort.”

The WPCA was recently reunited with an old trophy dating back to the mid-70s after a club member spotted it at the Roebourne Prison Museum.

The find prompted an investigation into finding and filling in the missing years of champions.

WPCA hopes to display the trophy and the full list of champions at the Karratha Leisureplex.
