Big win against Dampier Sharks propels Karratha Kats to third place
It was round 9 victory for the Karratha Kats when they thrashed Dampier Sharks by 74 points on Friday.
Kats showed they were not slowing down despite drawing with toptwo team Wickham last week and dominated for most of the game, putting in an especially strong performance in the first quarter when they booted 7.2.
The usually strong Sharks suffered from being undermanned and were patchy in their ability to get results. While they had a good second quarter and put 4.2 on the board, their first and third terms were scoreless.
The final result was 17.12 (114) to 6.4 (40) to the Kats. The win propels Kats to third place on the ladder and a game ahead of their close competition the Sharks, who remain neck-and-neck with the Port Hedland Rovers. Brandon Colbung was the Kat’s top goal kicker with four majors and Sharks’ Ashley Cooper and Layton Cooper each scored two.
Karratha also got the win in the reserves game which they led throughout.
Sharks started well but went on to suffer from inaccurate kicking and did not score a goal after halftime.
They were defeated, 12.10 (82) to 4.6 (30).
The Kats now sit at fourth place on the reserves ladder while Sharks are fifth, despite having a higher percentage.
