Players take aim at darts title
The annual Pilbara Darts Championships began on Monday and will run until Friday with teams and singles from around the Pilbara gathering in Newman for the event.
Players will be taking aim from 8am to 6pm this week, with the team events to run until tomorrow afternoon, before a doubles and singles competition on Friday.
Pilbara Darts Council president Phil Leyland said while there was no money on the line for winners, players enjoyed gathering each year for the love of the sport, with many taking the week off of work to take part. “Well to the towns it’s pretty important we all enjoy getting together every year,” he said. “Bragging rights are on the line. “We’ve got an A, B and a C-grade and whoever wins takes the trophy, there’s no money involved.”
About 80 players have travelled from Karratha-Dampier, Wickham, Meekathara, Geraldton, Port Hedland and Tom price to attend the event alongside Newman players.
Leyland said the Newman Club was a great venue for the event, which was held in Exmouth last year.
Winners will be declared on Friday.
