Pedal power tapped to raise funds for young Kyra
The Wickham Riders are gearing up for a charity ride this weekend to raise money for eight-year-old Kyra Delint who has been diagnosed with leukaemia.
Kyra, who lives in Pannawonica with her father, is in Perth receiving treatment.
Wickham Riders Association treasurer Steve Thackwell said riding clubs from all over the Pilbara, including Port Hedland, Pannawonica and Karratha, were set to participate in the event.
Mr Thackwell said Kyra and her family are very well known in the Wickham and Pannawonica communities, which had been providing support and donations since her diagnosis.
The riders will go from the Dampier Mermaid at noon on Saturday, July 9, to Whim Creek for an afternoon feast, then to Point Samson Tavern and Port Walcott.
A wind-down session will be held at the final destination, Port Walcott yacht club from 6pm.
Mr Thackwell said everyone was invited to the yacht club.
Local businesses have donated items and prizes to be auctioned and raffled off on the night. These include a free bike service, scratchies, drinks and 10 dozen oysters.
There will also be commemorative shirts and stubby holders available as well as food and drink.
DJ Giggaboyz has donated his time to provide music for the event.
People can also bring a swag to camp the night otherwise there will be a free bus service running from the yacht club to Wickham.
Entry fees are $30 for riders, $25 for passengers and $10 for the wind-up party.
All proceeds will go towards Kyra’s medical costs.
