Three local bands have been selected as finalists to battle it out for the chance to open the 2016 North West Festival.

The Best of North West competition returns for a fifth year, as Miss Max, Bojesse Pigram and Manhattan’s Wake compete for your vote to join the likes of the Rubens, Xavier Rudd and the Veronicas at the festival, from August 19-21. A Sunset Events spokeswoman said the competition promoted unsigned North West artists trying to crack the WA music scene.

“Each year, thanks to Red FM and the Best of the North West initiative, one lucky local North West act wins the chance to share the stage with the incredible calibre of acts making their way to the North West Festival,” she said.

“Rolling around again this year, this year’s comp has unearthed some absolute gems hiding away in the small towns of the beautiful North West.

“Our finalists have been entered into an online e-poll, so head over to the North West Festival website to cast your vote.”

This year’s grand prize includes the opening slot at the 2016 North West Festival, a $500 Kosmic voucher and an interview with Red FM and Spirit Radio.

Voting for the Best of North West competition is open until Monday, July 18.

The festival is delivered by the Town of Port Hedland and Sunset Events with support of BHP Billiton and MACRO Realty Developments.
