Referees put through their paces

Pilbara News - - Sport - Greg Emms

Last weekend Football West general manager football Eddie Lennie was in Karratha for the annual referees development weekend.

This was an opportunity for Pilbara referees to learn from and receive advice from a referee who has officiated at the pinnacle of the game, the World Cup.

On Saturday, Lennie was at Pegs Creek Oval where he assessed local soccer referees and ran a training session for them.

His feedback was that the Karratha competition was fortunate to have all the games officiated by qualified referees who presented and conducted themselves to a high standard.

On Sunday, Lennie ran a nationally accredited Level 4 Referees Course.

The full-day course comprised several theory sessions and a couple of practical session which covered player management, whistle techniques and flag signals.

The four graduates of the course will now apply their skills in the local junior competition.
