Thrillers take centre stage
The latest round of the home-andaway season of the Karratha District Junior Soccer competition was played on Saturday.
In the 14s age group, despite the best efforts of the Salt players, Nickol 3 ran out comfortable winners in the first game.
In the second game, Wickham scored twice but Glory were the better team on the day.
The late game was the derby between Nickol 2 and Nickol 1. Nickol 1 were able counter each time Nickol 2 scored and ran out the winners by the narrowest of margins.
In the 18s age group, an understrength Nickol 1 were no match for Glory in the early game.
In the second game, Nickol 2 scored three goals early in the first half to take a comfortable lead against Salt. The momentum of the game then swung, with Salt scoring twice before half-time.
The second half was a tightly played affair with both teams having their chances to score but not being able to convert.
With minutes to go, Salt had a chance to draw level from a welltaken free kick from just outside the penalty area.
Good work from the Nickol 2 keeper resulted in the shot being deflected on to the cross bar and then cleared. Nickol 2 ended up running winners by a single goal.
