Strong field for FeNaClNG
Matt Herbert has put the disappointment of missing out on a third straight Brett Johnson trophy last month behind him, taking out the Nickol Bay Speedway’s FeNaClNG races street stock feature at the weekend.
Herbert won ahead of a 14strong field of drivers who had come up from across the State for the annual meet.
It came down to the wire though, with Herbert and second-placed Warren Vanzetti split by just 0.15sec.
The juniors have been a tight tussle all season and the weekend was no different.
Jorj Park got up over Jared Coutts and Matt Magerl, with Jayme Manfield and Sarah Stevens further back.
Shakira Moss failed to finish after having a strong weekend behind the wheel in the lead up to the feature.
As has been the case all year, the wingless category was a shootout between Peter Bywaters and Troy O’Keefe, with the former getting the wood over his opponent by 1.3sec. Jayd Mathews was one lap behind in third place.
Three of four production class cars finished their feature race. It was another tight one which was won by Greg Mills, who crossed 0.5sec. ahead of Jack McAuley.
Continuing the close racing for the night, the modifieds class was a dead heat, with Brett Mills and Brake Jackson each crossing at 8min. 49.119sec. Tom O’Driscoll was less than a second behind in third.
Only two sprintcars contested an eight-lap feature. Karratha’s Colin Stannard finished 1.7sec. ahead of Tom Price’s Chris Manfield.
Matt Peaker and Matt Herbert jostle for top spot in the heats.
Steve Carman, 4, and Dwayne Meagher, 25, get tangled up in the heats.
Jorj Park takes the lead from Sarah Stevens.
