Players celebrate 100-game milestone
Not one but two North Pilbara Football League players are marking their 100-game milestones in the final few games of the 2016 season.
Dampier Sharks player Ryan Turner celebrated 100 games last round, while Karratha Falcons’ two-time fairest and best Victor Bellotti will play his 100th game this weekend against Wickham Wolves.
Turner, who has been playing with the Sharks since under-10s and joined the league side in 2004, said as a local he had stuck by the club through its ups and downs.
He said reaching 100 games was a “massive” milestone and one of only three Sharks league players that had accomplished it in his 12 years there.
“I had one of my best mates, who I’ve played footy with (for a long time), play his 100th last year, so to play alongside him and do it for the coaches I’ve had over the years, it means the world,” he said.
Bellotti said he started playing for the Falcons upon moving to Karratha about eight years ago, when the NPFL competition looked quite different during the mining boom.
“When I came it was around the boom time of the mining industry, and the club was bigger,” he said.
“There were more club members around, there were 50 people plus coming to training.”
