Underground power connection edges closer
Pegs Creek residents will soon be connected to the Pilbara Underground Power Project network with individual connections at each property starting ahead of schedule this month.
Project manager James Carney said the electrical contract for the rest of the project was awarded to Electech WA, which will complete connections in Pegs Creek and Nickol. Mr Carney said Pegs Creek customers would receive a letter in the coming days with a project update, and would be kept well informed with advanced notice of any impact that the work will have on their property.
All electrical connections in Pegs Creek are due to be completed by early 2017.
Local contractor Allwest has been secured to start works in Nickol North as well.
Nickol, the final suburb of Karratha to be connected to the new underground network, will be completed in two stages.
“(Allwest) are very familiar with the PUPP project, having recently been responsible in the deployment of suburbs in prior projects,” Mr Carney said.
Nickol North is the first stage with works to start in the coming weeks and Nickol South is scheduled in the first quarter of 2017.
Power lines in Karratha will be replaced by underground cables.
