A pair of Pilbara Princesses will make the trek to Broome for the Variety Bash next week after many months of preparation.

Drivers Kirsten Boardman and Tracey Payne said while their fundraising had wrapped up, they had still been keeping busy paying sponsors back in kind by volunteering their help at events and activities around town.

Ms Boardman said despite difficult economic times in Karratha the team had managed to outdo their 2015 event fundraising total and were grateful for the local support they had received.

“The local clubs have been (great) — without them, we wouldn’t have been able to reach our target,” she said.

As the Regal Transport Karratha Depot prepared to transport the bright pink Princess car to Kununurra for free last week, the Princesses said they were looking forward to finally getting on the road for the Bash.

“We’ve been full-on since April and basically, the last few months, every weekend we’ve been at a market or festival … so it is quite tiring,” Ms Boardman said.

“We are absolutely knackered, so we’re actually looking forward to having a break away.”
