Join ‘pumped’ Rudd on spirited journey
Australian surf and roots musician Xavier Rudd is “pumped” to hit the stage at Hedland’s North West Festival this weekend.
The multi-instrumentalist said he was a fan of WA after having toured around the State and the Pilbara previously.
“I love the whole of WA — it’s a fascinating State,” he said.
“It’s always different from everywhere else I tour.”
Rudd will be bringing his band to Hedland to play the longest set of the North West Festival with a mixture of old and new tunes.
“I won’t be bringing the whole band but I do have a smaller band for this show and we will be playing some of those songs for sure,” he said.
“We’re going to go on a bit of a journey. I’ve released a lot of albums ... so we’re going to be playing a bit of everything and just celebrating life in Australia.”
Hailing from the small Victorian coastal town of Jan Juc, Rudd has spent the past 15 years playing his eclectic, folk tunes for audiences in Australia and around the world.
His music and lyrics are inspired by his passions for environmentalism, spirituality and indigenous rights.
Rudd has received multiple ARIA nominations, had numerous songs make it into the Triple J Hottest 100 and had albums go platinum and gold in Australia. Since releasing his eighth studio album Nanna in March last year, Rudd has been touring the world extensively.
During his European summer tour in April, he sold out all but one show. “Europe was pumping ... we try and lift the spirits of people and show people a good time and that’s been happening for sure,” he said.
Rudd said the tour cycle had come to and end and he was looking forward to taking time off and getting back to recording.
Joining Rudd in the line-up for North West Festival are Sarah Blasko, The Veronicas, You Am I, The Rubens and many more.
North West Festival is starting this Friday from 5pm at the Port Hedland Turf Club and will continue on Saturday from 4pm.
On Sunday, Port Hedland Yacht Club will host a sundown with The Panics’ frontman Jae Laffer, You Am I’s Tim Rogers as well as Tanya Ransom and the Elephant and the Coffee Table.
