Basketball carnival continues to thrive
It was a big weekend for Onslow, which hosted the annual basketball tournament and Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards.
State Development Minister Bill Marmion and singer Big T dropped in on Friday night to open the new multipurpose outdoor courts where the carnival was played.
Mr Marmion said Onslow’s transformation from a sleepy little town six years ago to the active community it is today had been beyond belief.
The popular basketball carnival keeps growing, with teams from across the region taking part in the competition on the new courts.
A diverse mix of town, industry and remote community teams competed and were all represented on the winners’ list.
BHP Billiton petroleum operations manager Clive Jones said the basketball carnival had a reputation as one of the fiercest events in the North West.
Mr Jones said the new courts would provide a good base for the competition to grow in future years.
