Man, 20, on more child sex charges via in­ter­net

A 20-year-old Pil­bara man who al­legedly posed as a fe­male on so­cial me­dia to pro­cure sex­u­ally ex­plicit im­ages from young boys ap­peared in court last week on a string of child sex charges.

Daniel Ou­tram ap­peared in Kar­ratha Mag­is­trate’s Court via video link from Roe­bourne Re­gional Prison, where he has been re­manded in cus­tody.

Mag­is­trate Robert Young told the court a fur­ther 31 charges had been laid against Mr Ou­tram that morn­ing, in­clud­ing 22 counts of us­ing a car­riage ser­vice for child pornog­ra­phy ma­te­rial and three counts of us­ing an op­ti­cal sur­veil­lance de­vice to record or ob­serve a pri­vate ac­tiv­ity.

Other charges he faces in­clude pos­sess­ing and dis­tribut­ing child ex­ploita­tion ma­te­rial, in­tend­ing to ex­pose a per­son un­der 16 years to in­de­cent mat­ter and us­ing a car­riage ser­vice to pro­cure a per­son un­der 16 to en­gage in sex­ual ac­tiv­ity.

Po­lice al­lege Mr Ou­tram com­mit­ted the of­fences over a three­year pe­riod from 2013 un­til his ar­rest in April this year.

Po­lice prose­cu­tor Sergeant John Hart said de­tec­tives were fur­ther in­ves­ti­gat­ing al­leged ev­i­dence.

Mag­is­trate Young ad­journed the case un­til Au­gust 30.
