Charities to pitch at live funding event
Three Pilbara charities have been selected to pitch at the first live crowdfunding event to be held in Karratha.
The Pilbara Ear Health Program, the OzHelp Foundation, and Boss Hogg Boxing and Fitness Academy were selected to present at the upcoming event, hosted by the Funding Network.
They will each have six minutes to pitch their ideas for local social change to an audience of about 150 people, who can ask questions and pledge donations starting from $100 on the spot.
The aim is to raise up to $15,000 for each project, and event sponsor Rio Tinto will match pledges of up to $7500 per charity.
Pilbara Ear Health Program chief executive Peta Monley will pitch for greater support for local deaf and hearing-impaired people; OzHelp Foundation project officer Sarah Boagey will call for better mental health and wellbeing screening for remote male workers; and Boss Hogg Boxing and Fitness Academy chairman Josh Hill will speak about inspiring disadvantaged indigenous children through a traditional boxing club.
The event will be held at the Karratha Leisureplex from 5.30pm-8.30pm on October 13.

Not-for-profit groups will present their ideas for social change at a live crowdfunding event in October.
