Char­i­ties to pitch at live fund­ing event

Three Pil­bara char­i­ties have been se­lected to pitch at the first live crowd­fund­ing event to be held in Kar­ratha.

The Pil­bara Ear Health Pro­gram, the OzHelp Foun­da­tion, and Boss Hogg Box­ing and Fit­ness Academy were se­lected to present at the up­com­ing event, hosted by the Fund­ing Net­work.

They will each have six min­utes to pitch their ideas for lo­cal so­cial change to an au­di­ence of about 150 peo­ple, who can ask ques­tions and pledge do­na­tions start­ing from $100 on the spot.

The aim is to raise up to $15,000 for each project, and event sponsor Rio Tinto will match pledges of up to $7500 per char­ity.

Pil­bara Ear Health Pro­gram chief ex­ec­u­tive Peta Mon­ley will pitch for greater sup­port for lo­cal deaf and hear­ing-im­paired peo­ple; OzHelp Foun­da­tion project of­fi­cer Sarah Boagey will call for bet­ter men­tal health and well­be­ing screen­ing for re­mote male work­ers; and Boss Hogg Box­ing and Fit­ness Academy chair­man Josh Hill will speak about in­spir­ing disadvantaged indige­nous chil­dren through a tra­di­tional box­ing club.

The event will be held at the Kar­ratha Leisure­plex from 5.30pm-8.30pm on Oc­to­ber 13.
