Wolves blitz Rovers for grand final berth
The Wickham Wolves reserves stormed straight through to the grand final after a commanding 106-point win over the Port Hedland Rovers.
The Wolves have been the dominant reserves side all year and proved their firm title favourite status once again with the 18.12 (120) to 2.2 (14) victory.
There were no surprises about the leading goal scorer.
Beau Alec booted five to push his season tally up to 59, more than double Mark Cashion’s total in second place.
From the start, the intent was clear from the Wolves.
A 4.2 first quarter was followed by a huge six-goal second term to blow the lead out to 56 points at half time.
The Rovers barely had a chance to leave their defensive 50 in the second quarter.
The Wolves midfield provided clean ball to the forwards time and again from the start of the second half.
Any suggestions the home side would take its foot off the gas after gaining a big lead were quickly quashed as they went on to boot another five goals in the third term.
Ayden Saylor, Kendall Taylor and Chris Milne each added three goals to their season tally.
The Wolves forwards lost their line in the final quarter, kicking 3.7, while the Rovers went scoreless.
