Full-strength liquor allowed at airport
City of Karratha councillors have approved the extension of fullstrength alcohol sales at Karratha Airport while in the same breath slapping down the sale of tobacco.
Full-strength alcohol will become a permanent feature at the airport after a trial period beginning at the start of the year encountered no issues.
North West Aviation Services and Skystar did not support the trial initially, but have now changed tack to support the continuation of fullstrength alcohol service.
Qantas and Citic, the other two stakeholders that opposed the trial, did not provide a response.
The motion was carried unanimously by councillors.
The issue of tobacco sales was a more contested one, with Councillors Fiona White-Hartig, Marg Bertling and Bart Parsons voting against a motion to deny the service.
The motion not to approve tobacco sales was carried seven votes to three.
