Saturday saw the last of the home and away rounds for the 2016 Karratha District Junior Soccer junior competition.

In the 14s Salt needed to beat Nickol 3 to keep their finals hopes alive, but despite their best efforts they could not break through the Nickol defence, with Nickol 3 running out the winners.

The second game saw Nickol 1 play Nickol 2 in a close match with both teams working hard.

In the end Nickol 2 took the honours by a narrow margin.

In the late game, Glory played Wickham. Glory took the early lead but a very determined Wickham played their way back into the match getting the equaliser late in the second half. A late, successfully-taken penalty shot by Glory was the difference between the two teams.

In the 18s the early game saw the derby match between Nickol 1 and Nickol 2.

Early on this was a closely contested game but in the end, Nickol 1 ran out comfortable winners.

In the second game, Glory played Salt.

Glory took the early lead and, despite Salt’s best efforts, took the narrowest of leads into half-time. In the second half, Salt got the equaliser and despite the best efforts of Glory, Salt kept it that way until an excellent effort in front of goal by Michael Baker put Glory back in front.

Glory managed to keep Salt out to run out winners by a single goal. Congratulations to both teams on what was a very entertaining match.

This Saturday sees the finals with Nickol 2 playing Nickol 1 for third and fourth starting at 3pm followed by Glory and Nickol 3 at 4:30pm in the 14’s grand final. In the 18’s age group, Glory will play Nickol 1 in the Grand final with that match starting at 6:30pm at Pegs Creek Oval.
