Paraburdoo childcare centre taking enrolments
The new Paraburdoo childcare centre is set to open its doors next month.
The $4.6 million building is larger and more modern than the current centre and offers 73 places, up from 25, for out-ofschool-hours care.
Construction began in November 2015 and was supported by the Shire of Ashburton, Rio Tinto and the State Government’s Royalties for Regions Pilbara Cities Initiative. Shire president Kerry White said it was an exciting development for families in the Paraburdoo community.
“The completion of the building and the appointment of a service provider are important milestones for Paraburdoo,” she said.
“With increased capacity and more modern resources, the centre helps to ensure the sustainability of the community.”
The centre will open with a community day on October 8.
One Tree Community Services has been granted the childcare provider lease for the centre, after years of operation in Paraburdoo, Onslow and Pannawonica.
One Tree Community Services children’s services general manager Coral Callan said the organisation was glad to continue its long-term involvement in Paraburdoo.
“We are currently going through the approval process with the State regulatory authority – a comprehensive process that can take up to three months,” she said.
“In the meantime, we are taking enrolments and seeking expressions of interest for an out-of-school care program.”
