Daycare owner grabs second award for service
A Karratha family daycare owner has won an educator award from the sector’s national peak body.
Cool Catt’s Family Day Care owner Emma Catt has been named Educator of the Year for Pilbara Family Day Care Australia at its annual excellence awards.
It is the educator’s second win in the category, having also claimed the award in 2013.
Ms Catt said she had worked in the childcare sector for 15 years and enjoyed a lot of success since opening her own family daycare centre, based in Millars Well, shortly after coming to Karratha in 2013.
“I have been fully booked from the day I opened,” she said.
“All the children that are enrolled are children that I have previously cared for or friends of parents who I’ve known throughout my time in Karratha. So it’s all through word of mouth rather than advertising.”
Ms Catt said her focuses were on preparing older children for kindergarten and promoting sustainability through practices such as recycling and composting.
She said it was especially significant to be recognised in childcare in the Pilbara region, where there was high demand for the service, and she “could not be happier” to win again.
She thanked the children and parents at her centre for helping her achieve the win.
“I wouldn’t have this business if I didn’t have these children and these parents, and they’ve been such a good support,” she said.
Ms Catt will receive a certificate at a gala dinner in November, and a toys voucher.
