Dampier Primary School was thrilled to win the Karratha interschool athletics carnival on Friday, September 9.

Principal Luke Breman said Dampier students had done well to win in several categories in the carnival on Millars Well Oval, on their way to taking out the overall award for best prize.

“Jumps and throws were fantastic and (so was) our team game work as well,” he said. “We’re over the moon. “Considering we’re a third of the size of the other schools, it’s amazing.”

Dampier was the smallest school in the competition, which involved primary schools across the City of Karratha area.

Millars Well Primary School hosted the day and Wickham Primary School was the winner of the most improved shield.

Mr Breman said Dampier students and staff had been training hard with two one-hour sessions each week and daily fitness sessions.

Last year, the school finished in seventh position.
