Giraffes, Gulls clash ends in 9-9 deadlock

Pilbara News - - Sport - Angela Ballantyne

The final match before term break and the promise of a hot snag after the game tempted lots of members out onto the hockey pitch last Wednesday.

Among them was Steve Cook, who had returned from a holiday in the sun relaxed and ready to save the game.

Jack Cotterell had a great game out on the wing for the Karratha Seagulls, working with Cook and club president Alex Walter in the centre to bring the ball through to their goals where striker Megan Gillie was ready and waiting.

The Pilbara Giraffes were able to match the Seagulls’ energy this week with the help of Neil Smith, whose return to the team definitely helped to keep the Giraffes in the game.

Together with Nathan Fitzgerald, he solidified defence for the Giraffes and let the female strike force of Annabelle Little and Sophie Sparks score the goals at the other end of the pitch. The game ended in a 9-9 draw. For more information about hockey in Karratha, visit the Nickol Bay Hockey Association website onnickolbayhockey.myclub.org.au/.

The club is likely to take a two- week break over the school holiday period and resume for a short time after that before the scorching Karratha summer heat sets in.
