West Australian wingless champion Tom Payet has overcome his Australian number one rival Daniel Hartigan to claim the Nickol Bay Speedway’s wingless event title.

Payet pipped Hartigan for first place in the A main feature, with Mandurah’s Justin Wragg coming in third.

Among a field of 12 drivers, half of which had travelled from outside of the Pilbara, Payet was dominant all night.

He came in ahead of Hartigan in both heats and kept his time under 2min.25sec in all but his last heat.

In the support classes Brett Mills won the modifieds, coming in four seconds ahead of Bernie Matkovich. Nickol Bay Speedway president John Magerl was a further one lap off the pace to claim third.

Matt Herbert continued his unassailable dominance in the street stocks, though second placed Dale Roberts gave him a run for his money, but ultimately finished three seconds behind Herbert’s time of 2.48sec.

In the juniors it continued to be anyone’s game, with Jared Coutts coming out on top of Matthew Magerl and Shakira Moss.

Nickol Bay Speedway’s next club meet is on October 8.
