Police probe ‘horrific’ Paraburdoo crash
Authorities have described the scene of a collision in the Pilbara as horrific, as they work to find out what happened in the lead-up to the incident.
A 29-year-old man and a 26year-old woman from Wakathuni were killed when they collided head on with another vehicle on the Paraburdoo-Tom Price Road, about 30km west of Paraburdoo on Sunday.
Pilbara district police superintendent Paul Coombes told the
Pilbara News there were reports of a domestic dispute some time before the crash, but officers would now interview community members to get a timeline of events, as well as wait for post mortem results.
He said he appreciated patience as police worked through their investigations.
“The facts at the moment are that it’s a tragic incident involving two vehicles that have collided head on and it’s through our investigation team that we (now) try to unravel those facts to find out exactly what has occurred,” he said.
“We’re just going through the process of examining the scene collecting the evidence and dealing with the facts that we know of at the time.”
Police and a St John Ambulance crew were dispatched to the accident at 10.15am and officers from West Pilbara detectives, along with Pilbara district, forensic and domestic violence officers are now investigating.
Two other people sustained minor injuries in the collision and were taken to Paraburdoo Hospital for treatment.
Supt Coombes said the two others involved in the crash, whose vehicle rolled several times, were extremely lucky to be alive.
