Inspirational girls to strut the catwalk
The stage has been set, the runway readied and the wait will finally be over when two young women are crowned this year’s Kimberley Girl and Pilbara Girl winners in a glittering showcase event on Friday night.
After a whirlwind few weeks of intense workshops, eight finalists from the Kimberley will join forces with six Pilbara participants and storm the catwalk during a joint finals event at the Goolarri Media Amphitheatre.
In its 13th year, Kimberley Girl has become an institution in the region as an inspiring leadership program that encourages young indigenous women to follow their dreams and become role models.
This year’s program attracted 24 participants aged between 16 and 21 from all over the region including Broome, Pandanus Park, Derby, Halls Creek and Kununurra.
Entrants enrolled in a week of intense personal and professional development workshops designed to increase their confidence and self-esteem, which culminated in a parade last Friday.
Eight women were then selected to go through to the finals workshops this week in preparation for Friday night’s event.
Kimberley Girl founder and GME chief operations officer Kira Fong said the showcase event was always an exciting occasion where the girls had the opportunity to showcase their confidence and strength to an audience.
