DFES extinguishes out-of-control bushfire
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services fought an out-of-control bushfire in the south west of the City of Karratha area last week.
The fire was reported at 8.38am and started between North West Coastal Highway and Dampier Road.
It was reportedly a small but unpredictable blaze burning out of control, moving in a south westerly direction towards North West Coastal Highway in the southern part of Cooya Pooya in the wider Karratha area.
DFES firefighters, Karratha Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service, Rio Tinto and City of Karratha services were working into the late afternoon before they extinguished it at about 4pm. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this stage.
A DFES spokesman, speaking last week, said the fire had posed no threat to lives or homes and there was no immediate danger, but asked drivers through the area to exercise caution given the smoke.
No roads were closed during the incident.
