City finally goes kerbside

Pilbara News - - Opinion - Peter Long is the City of Karratha Mayor.

We are very excited this month to announce that across the City, we will now provide kerbside recycling at no extra cost to ratepayers.

The City of Karratha has always run its waste services, including household bin collection, in-house.

However, every year in our community survey and on Facebook, there are calls for kerbside recycling. This is one of the most frequently received pieces of feedback we receive.

While the City has always provided recycling services and we are extremely conscious of reducing waste to landfill, in the past kerbside recycling services have not been financially viable.

However, we are always looking at how we can deliver our services more efficiently and decided to test the market for household rubbish collection services to see if we could achieve a better service or make savings compared to in-house delivery.

After this process, Cleanaway won a competitive tender to deliver these services and will be able to provide kerbside recycling pick-ups as well as the rubbish service for less than the City’s current service.

We are very proud to be able to deliver kerbside recycling to all our towns.
