Karratha on top after round-robin
Karratha has pipped Hedland 3-2 in the final of the North West Softball Championships to be crowned the region’s best.
Held last Saturday and Sunday at South Hedland’s Marie Marland Reserve, the event included teams from Newman, Tom Price, Dampier and a second Hedland side called the Pirates.
With each side playing every other team twice in 10 roundrobin matches, it was home side Hedland and Karratha who emerged as the powerhouse teams to beat.
In the hard-fought game, Karratha shot out to a 2 runs to nil lead, before Hedland fought hard over the next few innings to level the scores at 2-2.
But they could not contain their opponents at the plate in the closing innings as Karratha scored one more run to take home the title.
