Kats make easy meal of Lions’ total
The first round of the West Pilbara Cricket Association’s Twenty20 Competition began on Friday, despite the rain, which curtailed one of the games.
At Millars Well Oval, Karratha Kats had a comfortable win over Baynton Lions in a rematch of last season’s T20 grand final.
The Lions batted first and it was slow going in the wet conditions, with few boundaries scored.
But they did well to finish at 7-111 after their 20 overs.
Leading the batting efforts were Ishan Arandara (30), Vipan Rajput (20) and Anil Sharma (15).
Kats’ Michael James and Nino Sturgeon took four and two wickets respectively.
But the Kats dominated during their turn at bat, chasing down the score without losing a wicket.
Cameron Nowotny (47) and Corey Rutgers (56) worked skilfully together and were unfazed by the Lions’ bowling. They scored a handful of boundaries but most of their runs were made working the ball around the field.
Dampier Taverners defeated the Rec Club in their game at Bulgarra Oval.
The scheduled Pegs Creek Crabs and Wickham match was rained out and recorded as a draw.
Lions’ Vipan Rajput takes a swing as Kats’ Jackson Davey keeps wicket.
