Medal haul for Karratha as Super Series wraps up
Karratha BMX riders put in a strong showing at the 2016 BMX North West Super Series, which finished its fourth and final round at the East Pilbara BMX Club in Newman last month.
This year’s series has drawn a record number of competitors for each round, but Karratha was well represented with about 50 entrants across all age groups and claimed 21 medals in the final round alone. There were also plenty of overall series winners in their ranks.
Kalani Porch and Joshua Swiatek topped the nine-yearold and 11-year-old boys’ categories respectively, while Ashlyn Keremelevich and Sophie Taylor took the 10-11 and 1213-year-old girls’ divisions.
Karratha also came in overall first in several of the men’s categories. William Gethin won the 14-29 men’s cruiser, Alan Kurilowski topped the 30 and over men’s cruiser and Callum Kirkwood won the 14 and over pro men’s.
Particularly good categories for Karratha, in which they dominated the top five, were the 11-year-old boys, 13-andunder mixed cruiser, 14-andover women’s cruiser, 14-29 men’s cruiser, 14-and-over pro men’s divisions and the 30-andover men’s cruiser.
Thirteen Karratha mini-wheelers won participation awards for their involvement.
The Karratha riders face another big event this weekend, when about 31 of its members will compete in the BMX WA State Championships in Perth.
