Theatre doors of hospital open to give a rare peek
The doors to Nickol Bay Hospital will be thrown open to the public today, offering a first-hand glimpse into the everyday operations of the busy facility.
Hospital theatre nurses will demonstrate the use of an operating table with a mannequin, and visitors will be able to use a laparoscope and surgical instruments to extract a lolly.
NBH clinical nurse surgical services manager Sue Nieuwoudt said the small team of nurses was looking forward to helping inform the community about who cared for them during an operation.
“We look after our patients throughout their entire journey — from their first visit to outpatients, pre-anaesthetic clinic, day surgery and theatre, then a follow-up phone call and review once they are home,” she said.
“We hope our display will be an entertaining and informative way for people to get to know the dedicated team who look after them while they are on the operating table.”
The public display runs from 9am to noon today to celebrate Perioperative Nurses Week, which ends on Saturday.
