Strong contingent in regional achievement awards
Onslow has made its mark on the WA Regional Achievement and Community Awards this year, with three finalists in the running.
Award finalists were announced late last month and include groups and individuals from Onslow, Karratha and Dampier in three of the 11 categories.
Football community development program V Swans Onslow is still in the running as a finalist in the Prime Super Community Group of the Year Award category for their work across the Shire of Ashburton.
The Onslow Chamber of Commerce and Industry, KBSS Engineering from Karratha and Bardina Pty Ltd trading as Kooljaman from the Dampier Peninsula, are also representing the West Pilbara as finalists for the Rinehart Development of Northern Regional WA Award.
The fourth finalist is Marine Produce Australia from Cone Bay in the Kimberley. OCCI president Geoff Herbert is also one of only three finalists for the Horizon Power Leadership and Innovation Award.
He said he was glad to see Onslow so well-represented.
“It’s a big honour because it is Statewide and there are some fantastic people (nominated),” he said.
“Because we’re in small isolated town you don’t really think you’re doing something big in the State.”
Other finalists from the wider Pilbara region include Kim Gentle from Port Hedland, who is a finalist for the Community TAB Community Service Award, and Newman’s Chelsea Randall and Punmu Community’s Milton Chapman for the Worldwide Printing Solutions Sports Award.
The Earbus Foundation of WA, which does a lot of work in the North West, is also a finalist for the Prime Super Community Group of the Year Award.
