Pilbara News - - Pilbara Opinion - Josh Stronach Josh Stronach is a Karratha-based industry training consultant with Apprenticeship Support Australia, a Statewide Australian Apprenticeship Support Network Provider — an Australian Government initiative.

Linking with your local high school is key to finding the perfect trainee for your business.

Employing a school-based apprentice or trainee is a great opportunity to recruit an employee who is eager to learn and can bring a fresh perspective to your business.

Apprenticeship Support Australia manager Lena Constantine said employing a school-based apprentice or trainee offered benefits to everyone involved.

“School-based training is a cost-effective solution for businesses and offers a strong return on investment,” Ms Constantine said.

“Employers may even be eligible to receive financial support while training and there are no training costs while the student is still at school.

“Businesses have the opportunity to nurture a student, with the opportunity to offer them a full-time apprenticeship or traineeship upon completion of school.”

As the competition for jobs heats up, young people need to be thinking about how they can stand out from the competition.

Ms Constantine believes that school-based training offers young people this opportunity.

She recommends involving all parties in the process of recruiting and employing a School-based apprentice or trainee.

“School-based training works best when the school, employer, student and parent can work out an arrangement that suits all parties,” Ms Constantine said.

“Getting everyone involved from the beginning will ensure the entire training process runs smoothly.”

ASA works with schools throughout the Pilbara and North West regions and can assist in linking businesses to schools and support all parties throughout the training period.
