Two tourists die, two hurt in rollover
Two young European backpackers were killed and two other foreign tourists were fighting for their lives on Sunday after their car rolled over in the Pilbara.
The European tourists, aged between 20 and 24, were travelling south-east on Great Northern Highway near Pardoo Roadhouse, 150km north of Port Hedland, when their Toyota Prado left the road and rolled on Saturday morning.
A 24-year-old man and a 20-yearold woman died at the scene.
The 21-year-old female driver and another 20-year-old woman had serious injuries and were flown to Perth by the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
The 20-year-old was earlier this week in a critical condition, while the 21-year-old driver’s condition was serious but stable. Three of the four were from the Netherlands and the fourth was from Germany.
Major crash police officers travelled to Pardoo on Sunday to investigate. The 1998 white Prado the group were travelling in was owned by the driver.
The deaths, and two other fatalities over the weekend, pushed the State’s road toll to 152.
