Two tourists die, two hurt in rollover

Two young Euro­pean back­pack­ers were killed and two other for­eign tourists were fight­ing for their lives on Sun­day af­ter their car rolled over in the Pil­bara.

The Euro­pean tourists, aged be­tween 20 and 24, were trav­el­ling south-east on Great North­ern High­way near Par­doo Road­house, 150km north of Port Hed­land, when their Toy­ota Prado left the road and rolled on Satur­day morn­ing.

A 24-year-old man and a 20-yearold woman died at the scene.

The 21-year-old fe­male driver and another 20-year-old woman had se­ri­ous in­juries and were flown to Perth by the Royal Fly­ing Doc­tor Ser­vice.

The 20-year-old was ear­lier this week in a crit­i­cal con­di­tion, while the 21-year-old driver’s con­di­tion was se­ri­ous but sta­ble. Three of the four were from the Nether­lands and the fourth was from Ger­many.

Ma­jor crash po­lice officers trav­elled to Par­doo on Sun­day to in­ves­ti­gate. The 1998 white Prado the group were trav­el­ling in was owned by the driver.

The deaths, and two other fa­tal­i­ties over the week­end, pushed the State’s road toll to 152.
