Approvals delay start of Dampier marina
As Port Hedland received $112 million in government funding for a marina last week, plans for a marina in Dampier are still in progress but on hold pending approvals.
Hampton Harbour Boat and Sailing Club commodore John Lally said the 100-pen, noncyclone-proof facility was waiting on the transfer of Rio Tinto lease ownership over the land to the City of Karratha.
The lease transfers are a necessary prior step to seeking government funding.
There have been plans for the Dampier marina since early 2014.
An online feasibility survey completed last year showed strong community support for the project.
