Salvos launch hamper drive
Karratha’s Salvation Army branch is asking residents to open up in the lead-up to Christmas to help ensure no one in town is left behind this festive season.
The Salvos have launched a hamper of hope campaign; a food drive where individuals and organisations can fill a hamper with food and gifts to distribute to those most in need in the community.
Karratha Salvos captain Niall Gibson said the local schools had already taken up the Christmas spirit, and would now like to see other businesses and organisations jump on board.
“There are those people out there who will have next to nothing at Christmas time,” he said.
“You can say it means the world to them, some would leave with tears in their eyes.
“It’s just a way of giving them a better Christmas than what they could have and showing they are a valued member of the community.”
Mr Gibson praised the schools for their generosity.
The giving spirit is, as usual, evident in more ways than one with the Kmart wishing tree, shopping centre food cages and Christmas lunch on December 9 all going ahead.
