Toll roads plan is unbelievable cheek

Pilbara News - - Opinion - Len Paggi, Carnarvon

The cheek of any Australian Governments to introduce toll roads and the unbelievable agreement by a substantial number of motorists, as recently published, leaves me wondering if the Australian public has any idea of what is going on in this country.

Is the average Australian aware that the Government is collecting 39.5¢ per litre in fuel tax, which was introduced for the maintenance and upgrade of roads, but only 25 per cent of it is going into what it was meant to do and 75 per cent goes into general revenue ?

If all the 39.5¢ collected was spent on roads, as initially intended, we would have the best roads in the world all over the country.

Why then ask us, the motorists, to further contribute by paying for the use of toll roads?
