More than 120 keen fishermen and women were out on the water last weekend, on the lookout for the big barramundi.

Sponsored by Auslec, Port Hedland Game Fishing Club’s annual event, the Pil-Barra Competition ran Saturday and Sunday and had some decent conditions for competitors.

The biggest barramundi was snagged by Max Maxwell at 96cm, while Jaden Tenni was named club champion for an overall catch length of 146.5cm.

Young competitors reeled in some decent salmon and mangrove Jack, but the barra was too slippery and none were caught by juniors.

The club is looking towards next year’s 25th annual Bluewater Classic, which it hopes will be a big event.
